What is the Church? If we want to minister to today’s broken world we need to understand what Scripture means by the Church. New Testament writes about the body of Christ and the Kingdom of God. For the writer to the Hebrews, the Church of today finds its most proper definition in terms of the historical experience of the old covenant people of God “in the wilderness” during the days of Moses....

the two-fold role of mediator of the covenant and leader of the people. He mediates the God-initiated covenant to the nation (Exod. 20:18–21), and intercedes before the Covenant LORD on their behalf (Exod. 32:30–32; 33:12–16). He serves as shepherd of the people, leading them throughout their wilderness wanderings (cf. Num. 27:17–23). In these various roles he serves by divine appointment as a prophetic figure anticipating a greater than Moses yet to come who will at the same time be ‘like’ Moses
